From Code First: Girls

I work with Code First:Girls to introduce more women into tech sector. I am responsible for the UK-wide programme of free coding courses, community events and other initiatives targeting young women who are considering a career in tech. I make sure that we’re on track with our 2020 Campaign, whose aim is to teach 20,000 young women to code by 2020.

I believe that the best thing you can give others is the access to free education. I am a linguist with a computer science degree, which I completed just to prove the point that women can do it if they want to.

How do I do this ‘diversity thing’?

Byte Size

Diverse teams perform better - fact!

But how can you attract more diverse talent to your tech team?

One element of the 'diversity thing’ is gender, and it’s something we’ve been working hard at for many years at Code First: Girls. In that time, we’ve run free coding courses for young women interested in tech, fintech mentoring programmes with senior female executives, and even run tailor-made, all-female, 3-months’ boot camps turning non-tech women into junior developers.

Through these activities we’ve learned a lot and in this short session we’ll share our experiences. Hopefully you’ll take something from our learnings that will help make your workplace a more diverse and better performing space.
